FEVAD recently unveiled the key e-commerce figures for the year 2017. The opportunity to make an inventory of the French market and know its new challenges.
Global information on the e-commerce market
The French e-commerce market is 81.7 billion euros in turnover, an increase of 14.3% compared to 2016. Real growth driver for fashion brands, 29% of Internet users shop there 2 to 3 times a month, 66% of which is for clothing.
In 2017, 505 million packages were delivered. An increase of 10.5% compared to 2016. However, the average price of a transaction has dropped by 5%.
The mobile finds its place in its results, since 21% of the turnover is made there (against 16% in 2016). It is also used to track the package through its various stages of preparation and delivery.
The importance of an omnichannel strategy
Another important fact : the impact of e-commerce on the attendance and turnover of brands is undeniable : it increases by 73% when the turnover increases by 65%. The latter is explained by various reasons: the need of consumers to feel and try the product, but also the arrival in store to recover their purchase in click and collect, hence the need to master its retail logistics and e-commerce end to end.
